The Covid-19 pandemic has forced the cancellation of one of London’s best known events for the first time since 1852.
The Lord Mayor’s Show was last cancelled in 1852 to allow for a period of national mourning for the Duke of Wellington.
Organisers had the idea initially of a scaled-back, televised event on November 14, “but serious and increasing concerns about the pandemic over the coming months mean that even a reduced Show is no longer appropriate,” a 21 September statement from the organisers said.
