The burning ball appeared to be visible across the UK and many people reported seeing it on Sunday night.
According to scientists from the UK Fireball Alliance (UKFAll), the meteor was likely to have been a small piece of an asteroid entering the Earth’s atmosphere.
The UK Meteor Network said that the fireballs are usually brighter than normal meteors and have a magnitude of -4 – similar to Venus.
