It will prevent a “devastating resurgence” of the coronavirus, but critics say it should have been imposed three months ago.
People coming into the UK will have to self-isolate for 2 weeks, and if they fail to do so they will be fined £1,000. They will have to provide their contact details on arrival and health officials will carry out spot checks to make sure they are self-isolating.
This policy will come into effect at the beginning of June, and it will be reviewed every three weeks.
